Logic4training’s City & Guilds 6361-01 Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) course will provide successful candidates with the necessary qualification to become a DEA and issue Domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPC). It also includes four out of eight units covered by the Green Deal Assessor qualification, making it a progression route for those looking to take advantage of the new scheme. This DEA course is the updated version, introduced in April 2012, which includes the new EPC calculations using SAP 9.1 – it replaces City & Guilds 6020-01.

Existing Domestic Energy Assessors who wish to up-skill to become Green Deal Assessors must hold the most recent version of the qualification (C&G 6361-01) unless they completed the DEA CPD course before 01/10/12.

Energy Performance Certificates are required by law as part of the property documents collated by solicitors/conveyancers for every home that is constructed, sold or rented, in England & Wales. Since October 2008 it has also become mandatory that landlords provide EPCs for all tenanted properties. While the Government has scrapped the need for Home Information Packs (HIPs), the requirement for an EPC is still in place and these must be issued by a suitably qualified and registered Domestic Energy Assessor. EPC’s are needed for the Feed in Tariffs scheme and will be part of Green Deal Assessment along with the Green Deal report.

The Domestic Energy Assessor course is currently only delivered at Logic4training’s Northolt centre. The cost of the course includes training, assessment, certification fees, a copy of the Domestic Energy Assessors Guide and portfolio building guidance.

Domestic Energy Assessor candidates should have some knowledge of domestic building types, styles and ages. This knowledge is preferable but not essential. The DEA course involves taking measurements and working out dimensions and therefore a reasonable knowledge of maths is required. Also, basic computer skills are needed to input data in order to create a certificate. All candidates have to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check in order to be able to visit premises and issue Energy Performance Certificates.

Logic4training’s Domestic Energy Assessor course is intended for candidates who wish to become Domestic Energy Assessors and issue Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) and are looking to become a Green Deal Assessor in the future.

The Domestic Energy Assessor course involves five days training at a Logic4training centre. Candidates will also need to complete a portfolio of evidence, which will be compiled by carrying out surveys within designated properties and production of example certificates.

Surveys of two properties are completed during the sixth day of the course. Candidates will also be required to carry out another 3 – 5 surveys independently. The premises surveyed independently can include those belonging friends and families, as long as they meet the criteria.

In addition to building the portfolio candidates will be required to complete three written and practical assignments. Successful candidates will be issued with a City & Guilds 6361-01 Level 3 Diploma certificate and will be able to register with one of the recognised accreditation bodies for Domestic Energy Assessors

A copy of the Domestic Energy Assessor Guide is supplied as part of the course.
