Solar Heating Installation training course

Description

Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems installation training course

Solar Heating Course overview:

Logic4training’s Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems (STHWS) installation training course is designed to give an entry level qualification for experienced domestic heating installers or plumbers, wishing to include solar water heating in their scope of works. The solar thermal course meets the training entry requirements for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

For building services professionals without the relevant qualifications and experience, but who need an understanding of domestic solar thermal hot water to manage, design or specify these systems for others to install, Logic4training’s other solar heating courses include: Solar Thermal Hot Water Design training. All the content of the Solar Thermal Design course is covered on the Solar Thermal Installation course.

Thanks to legally binding targets to cut carbon and the introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), solar thermal is a natural development for heating and plumbing market and should be considered by any heating and plumbing installation company or engineer. View our renewable energy blog for regular updates on what’s happening in the green energy sector:.

Course duration: 2 days

Course cost: £375 + VAT

Entry requirements:

Solar thermal training candidates should hold a G3 certificate in domestic unvented hot water systems and one DCLG recognised competency in a conventional fuel: i.e. gas, oil or solid fuel. Those in the plumbing field should have an NVQ level 2 or equivalent plumbing qualification. Experience in basic electrical practice and an understanding of the Water (fittings) regulations is also desirable.

Do I need this course?

The solar thermal hot water course is intended for experienced domestic heating installers or plumbers who wish to up-skill to include solar heating in their offering.

Solar thermal hot water course content/syllabus: The training and assessment package will cover the predominant North European fluid filled, indirect solar water heating systems. The course does not cover all possible variants of this subject and in any case, manufacturer’s support and guidance should always be sought when fitting equipment. The following topics are covered:

  • Regulations and standards
  • Solar thermal collector types
  • Solar heated storage types (storage cylinders)
  • Solar primary system types
  • Basic solar heating system design and integration
  • External and internal site survey, installation methods and materials
  • Filling and commissioning
  • Solar thermal system servicing and fault finding

The solar hot water training is not intended to cover roof or access work in detail (other than to highlight legislative requirements), so we would also recommend that solar thermal installers also complete the Logic4training Working at Heights course.

If Working at Heights (WaH) Course is booked at the same time as solar thermal training then the WaH course will be at the reduced price of £100 + vat.

Logic4training’s solar heating installation course culminates in a practical and written assessment. The written paper takes the form of a multiple choice exam and a design scenario, with the pass mark being 100%. Successful candidates will be issued with a Logic Certification Solar Thermal Hot Water certificate.
