Hot Water Systems and Safety (HWSS), initial training and re-assessment – replacing unvented hot water training course
Unvented hot water course (HWSS) overview:
Logic4training’s Hot Water Systems and Safety (HWSS), initial training and re-assessment, replaces the unvented hot water course, covering all hot water systems. Updated due to the recently revised G3 Building Regulation, HWSS features the original content of the old unvented hot water systems training, plus the new requirements under G3 for both vented and unvented systems.
Initial training and re-assessment takes place over one day, with candidates doing slightly different assessments depending on which element of the course they require. Engineers who hold the pre-existing Unvented Hot Water certificate, which is no longer being issued by Logic Certification, are eligible for re-assessment.
The HWSS course is recognised by Competent Person Schemes (CPS) approved to offer self-certification under Approved Document G.

Entry requirements:
Candidates must be experienced in the installation of domestic hot and cold vented and unvented water systems and hold one Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) recognised competency in a conventional fuel. For those in the plumbing field, an NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience is required.
Do I need this course?
The initial assessment is designed for installers who don’t have an up to date unvented hot water systems certificate. Re-assessment is for candidates whose qualification has expired within the last 12 months.
HWSS course content/syllabus: The course covers both vented and unvented hot water systems training, covering the following topics:
- Installation and safety
- Regulations, standards and guidelines
- Theory of hot water expansion
- Principles of hot water storage
- Design considerations
- Components and function
- Safety controls, discharge and integration
- Maintenance and servicing
Upon successful course completion, candidates will be issued with a HWSS certificate from Logic Certification.
Reading material/text book required?
All candidates must be aware of and familiar with Section G3 from the new Part G Building Regulations, which can be downloaded here.
