Part P Domestic Electrical Installer Course (Defined Scope) overview

With effect from 6th April 2013, ONLY those who are going to be appointed as a Qualifying Supervisor on a Part P Competent Person Scheme (CPS) responsible for work carried out in domestic dwellings will be required to hold the new Level 3 qualification “Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings”. Operatives who operate under a Qualifying Supervisor, who is responsible for their work, are not required to hold the Level 3 NVQ qualification.

The changes to the Part P Approved Document have removed the requirement for many sole traders working as kitchen fitters, plumbers and heating engineers to have to notify their work. Therefore they do not need to be part of a CPS now in many cases. However any electrical work carried out should still comply with the relevant standards and operatives will still need to be competent to install, inspect, test and issue Minor Works certificates and Electrical Installations certificates on a domestic electrical installation.

The Logic4training Part P Full Scope and Defined Scope courses and the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations course can provide operatives with the relevant knowledge and competence to undertake domestic electrical work.

Logic4training is developing the Level 3 qualification “Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings” which is required by Qualifying Supervisors and will be able to deliver it in the near future.

The cost of the courses includes training, assessment, the certification fee and a copy of the IET On-site Guide for BS7671:2008(2011) 17th Edition Wiring Regulations.

Upon completing the the Part P Defined Scope course, some operatives decide to attend an extra day in order to undertake the addtional scopes to move from Defined Scope to Full Scope. These additional areas include the following: -

Special locations

High protective conductors

Domestic lighting circuits SELV

Maintaining domestic electrical circuits

3 Phase supplies

Domestic consumer units

The cost of this additional training and assessment is £100.00 + vat.

Entry Requirements

The Part P Defined Scope Electrical course is suitable for experienced operatives who carry out electrical work as a secondary task to their main role i.e. heating installers, bathroom and kitchen fitters and builders.
