Solar Thermal Heating Designer Course overview

Logic4training’s Solar Thermal Domestic Hot Water Systems Designer course has been created specifically for those who require a fuller understanding of solar thermal system configuration, but do not currently meet the criteria to undertake Logic4training’s Solar Thermal Installer course. The Solar Thermal Designer course is for those involved in designing, managing or surveying solar thermal systems for others to install.

Thanks to legally binding targets to cut carbon and the introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), solar thermal is a natural development for heating and plumbing market and should be considered by any heating and plumbing installation company or engineer. The cost of the course includes training, assessment, the certification fee and a course manual.

Entry requirements

Candidates must have some basic plumbing knowledge, but do not require the plumbing qualifications needed for the Solar Thermal Heating Installer Course.

The course is intended for those involved in designing, surveying or managing solar thermal systems for others to install.

Course content/syllabus

The course covers the predominant North European fluid filled, indirect solar water heating systems. The course does not cover all possible variants of this subject and manufacturer’s support and guidance should always be sought when fitting equipment. The following topics are covered:

  • Regulations and standards
  • Solar thermal collector types
  • Solar heated storage types (storage cylinders)
  • Solar primary system types
  • Basic solar thermal system design and integration
  • External and internal site survey, installation methods and materials
  • Filling and commissioning
  • Solar thermal servicing and fault finding

Logic4training’s Solar Thermal Designer course includes a multiple choice question paper and a design scenario. Successful candidates will be issued with a Logic Certification Solar Thermal Hot Water Designer certificate.
