Kitchen fitters require a broad set of skills to do the job correctly. Our tips and advice will help you understand how you can gain new qualifications to do more as an installer. Kitchen and bathroom fitters will install suites in people’s homes or in commercial properties like offices etc. This is the sort of job a practical thinker would enjoy, with rewarding end results. To become a kitchen and bathroom fitter you will need multiple qualifications in a few different trades (Plumbing, Gas and electrical installation). You may also require other skills in things like Joinery or plastering. It’s beneficial to you if you have multiple skills, as you can earn more and the client won’t have to bring in other tradesmen. Usually operatives come into this line of work with a high level of experience. Becoming a kitchen and bathroom fitter is often a logical next step when a certain level of expertise in a relevant trade has been reached.  

For those with experience

If you are already working as a kitchen and bathroom fitter there are a few things that you should consider in order to develop your skills and progress your career. This will allow you to meet building regulations and carry out some electrical work like adding new circuits for showers or lighting.   • CSCS Card
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS Card) is often a required when dealing with building contractors. The card is proof of your skills and ability to carry out the job safely. You will need to pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test and prove your competence.
  • Design
Another option for installers is to train in Kitchen design or CAD design. There are courses available through the Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms National Training Group (KBBNTG). You can also do a foundation degree in Kitchen design which is aimed at people with the relevant experience/qualifications from the industry. Click Here to learn more about the course
