There have been some changes to bS 7671 - 18th Edition wiring regulations in relation to electric vehicle charging points.

The IET (Institute of Electrical Technicians) has just published Amendment 1 to bS 7671 - 18th Edition. The new amendment focuses on electric vehicle charging points - an area that's growing in popularity.

What has changed in the 18th Edition?

A change has been made to the regulations around the earthing of electrical charging equipment at electric vehicle charging points. Since bS 7671 was published there have been new developments in charging technology. These advances have made the installation of EV charging equipment safer. It is now easier and quicker for charging points to be installed and the regulations have been updated to reflect this.

Should I train as an electric vehicle installer?

The government has announced that it will ban the sale of new petrol, diesel or hybrid cars in the UK from 2035. Electric vehicles are the way forward and the need for a more comprehensive charging network has never been more important. Logic4training offer training for experienced electrical installation operatives. The course covers the key skills needed to design, install, fault find, inspect and test domestic and commercial electric vehicle charging points.

Electric vehicle charging courses from Logic4training

We deliver the C&G Level 3 RQF Award in Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (2919-01), which will have electricians, technicians or engineers with electrical experience up and running in just two days. On completion of the course, candidates can be registered on Rolec’s approved installers scheme and appear on Rolec’s national database of installers to get referrals for installation jobs. The qualification also meets the competency requirement for installers to register on the Office for Low Emission Vehicles(OLEV) grant schemes, which allows claimants to claim towards the cost of EV charging point installations at home or workplace.

Do you need 18th Edition training?
