On the 7th November the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) began consulting on changes to the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 (GSIUR).

The consulation will end around the 27th January 2017, so if you're an installer and want to respond to the consultation make sure you do it before the date.

Changes

  • The first will be an Amendment to Regulation 36(3). This will introduce the flexibility in the timing of landlords annual gas safety checks. It will also clarify that only gas safety defects should be recorded.
  • The next is a disapplication for compressed natural gas (CNG) filling stations. This is fed by a dedicated metered gas supply from the majority of the requirements of GSIUR, bringing them in line with other industrial premises.
  • Another change is an Amendmen to GSIUR. This is to incorporate the existing exemption certificate no.1 to regulation 26(9)(c). This sets out the circumstances where engineers can carry out alternative safety checks when the prescribed tests are not possible.
  • The last change will be to the Designation of Service Layer Engineers (SLEs).as a “member of a class of persons” under regulation 3(3). However, this is an administrative change, therefore not a change to legislation.
