Now we’ve entered the new year, Boiler Plus is suddenly upon us.
The new legislation surrounding the installation of heating systems comes into force on 6 April 2018 – that’s just over 2 months away!
What is Boiler Plus?
Boiler Plus introduces new mandatory requirements on tradespeople installing new and replacement heating systems.
It aims to phase out poorly performing products and to reduce carbon emissions in line with the EU’s 2020 targets.
The new standards will require:
- All gas boilers installed into existing systems in England to have an ErP efficiency of at least 92%
- Time and temperature controls to be installed at the same time, if not already present and working
- Combination boiler replacements to include the provision of an additional energy efficiency measure to be installed at the same time, for example, flue gas heat recovery systems or smart controls featuring automation and optimisation functions
How much do you know?
Installers need to be clued up on the scheme well before the introduction of Boiler Plus in April to ensure a seamless transition to working under the new legislation.
Additionally, installers will need to discuss Boiler Plus with their customers when quoting for work and this could begin before the scheme becomes mandatory.
In a survey we conducted in November, over half of the respondents (53%) said they had no knowledge of Boiler Plus.
This really needs to change, quickly, to avoid installers losing out on work.
