A coalition of industry bodies* is helping The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) map out the future of low carbon heating as part of a strategy to decarbonise UK homes and buildings.  They are looking for contributions from installers to help shape the qualifications needed to upskill our industry. Two consultations are currently underway on the qualification criteria for low carbon heating in general and heat pumps specifically.

Have your say:

Low carbon heating  The first consultation, led by The CIPHE, is about training for all forms of Low Temperature Heating Systems, from heat pumps to efficient high performance gas condensing boilers.  Click here to have your say   Heat pumps The second consultation, led by The Heat Pump Association, is specifically about training for air and ground source heat pumps. Don’t delay!

Installers are being asked to take part in both consultations and have until 5pm on the 30th June to comment. Why do we need this consultation? The Government is aiming to publish a Heat and Buildings Strategy later this year, which will set out the actions for reducing emissions from buildings. Energy efficiency measures and low carbon heating will be prioritised as part of an ambitious programme of works to decarbonise all homes and buildings in the UK. To do this, the UK needs suitably trained installers and this consultation will help the industry bodies involved understand the existing skills base within our heating industry. Following the consultation, the group will map out and design a new innovative set of digital training material and tools to assist the installer of the future.     *Industry bodies and other heating industry representatives involved: British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers' Association (BEAMA) Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA) Heat Pump Association (HPA) Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) LCL Awards Baxi Daikin
