OFTEC and FPS are working together to finalise the launch of a new campaign to encourage oil users to replace ageing or damaged tanks. They estimate that there are around 400,000 + single skin domestic tanks still in use which are more than 20 years old.   The campaign will be comprised of 3 elements:
  • New warning tags and stickers – issued to both OFTEC technicians and FPS members – with advice as to when these must be attached to a tank deemed “at risk”. There will also be user-friendly postcards for homeowners telling them how to get advice on tank replacement from FPS members and OFTEC technicians.
  • A new section of the Oilsave website called “Tank Awareness” which will give information to the homeowner; to the OFTEC technician; and to fuel delivery drivers about action to be taken when warning tags or stickers must be or have been applied to oil tanks.
  • A PR campaign initially aimed at rural local papers and radio stations urging home owners to have their oil tanks inspected and to replace ones at risk.
