Domestic RHI has had an update. Since the Domestic RHI scheme opened in April last year, more than 22,000 applications have been accredited, with over 6,000 of these ‘new’. There’s been a few changes since its inception, here’s an overview: Biomass tariff reduction: From January this year, the biomass tariff fell to 10.98p. This does not affect legacy applicants whose tariff remains at 12.20p. Heat meters: Applicants with heat meters can now edit meter readings any time before their due date, or before their payment has been sent, allowing mistakes to be rectified. We’ve recently introduced a course for heat meter installers. Click here for more information. Green Deal Advice Report (GDAR): Registered Social Landlords and Local Authorities no longer need to provide a GDAR number to be eligible for the Domestic RHI, so as long as they have an up-to-date Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). Biomass cooker stoves: Some biomass cooker stoves are now eligible under the scheme rules. If the cooker stove was commissioned before 01 August 2014, customers have until 31 July 2015 to apply. If it was commissioned after this date, they have 12 months from the commissioning date to apply. High temperature heat pumps: High temperature air source heat pumps are now eligible for the Domestic RHI. A Seasonal Performance Factor of 2.5 (from the Heat Emitter Guide) is still required.

Future changes:

Legacy deadline approaching: Those who commissioned a renewable heating system after 15 July 2009, but before 9 April 2014, are known as ‘legacy’ applicants. This includes individuals and landlords who received the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP). All legacy applicants can now apply for the Domestic RHI. They have until midnight on the 8 April 2015 to submit their application(s). Biomass Suppliers List: From 5 October 2015, biomass systems will need to be fuelled by suppliers from an approved list.  Customers can check whether the fuel they’re currently using is approved by contacting their supplier.
