As a first time applicant to the Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme for Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS), initially we would ask operatives to attend an informal induction interview to establish their current skill level and thus be able to recommend the most suitable course to undertake. Normally, we would recommend that operatives attend the Logic Certification Approved Prior Learning (APL) course. This course is approved by the ACS Scheme as a pre-requisite Managed Learning Programme; prior to assessment and application to be accepted on to the Gas Safe Register. The format of the course can be tailored to suit the operatives level of experience.
The induction interview is free of charge and takes approximately 2 hours. The session is informal and will be in a group environment with other applicants. Operatives as asked to bring along any existing relevant qualifications or work experience information.
During the induction interview there is a presentation to give guidance with regard to the Approved Prior Learning (APL) training programme. Also information will be given with regard to documentation of operatives’ on- site work experience which needs to be untaken by all first time applicants to the ACS Scheme. There is a short mulitple choice question paper to complete in order to establish operatives current skill level.
Logic4training has agreements with several Gas Safe registered installation companies who can provide the required on-site work experience. Information with regard to these companies would be given to operatives at the interview, subject to them booking to attend the Approved Prior Learning course.
For operatives who have a basic level of knowledge and on-site experience on gas, there is the New Entrant Domestic Gas Approved Prior Learning Foundation course. The interviewer will give guidance as to whether he recommends that operatives take this course prior to attending the Approved Prior Learning Training course.
Operatives who have a higher level of knowledge and on-site experience on gas will be able to go straight into the New Entrant Domestic Gas Approved Prior Learning Training course.
Following successful completion of the Approved Prior Learning training, operatives will then be able to complete their portfolio of on-site work records as required by the ACS Scheme. When these records are complete, operatives will be able to undertake a 5 day revision and assessment course. This course includes 2 days of refresher training followed by the Core Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1), and Central Heating Boilers / Water Heaters (CENWAT) assessments.
