Do I need this Part P course?

This Part P assessment is designed for trades’ people, such as heating installers, builders or bathroom fitters, who carry out electrical work as a secondary role.

Important Note: Next year, the qualification entry requirements for companies or businesses wishing to join a Part P Competent Person Scheme (CPS) will change, affecting the operative in the business designated as the Qualifying Supervisor (QS). This was supposed to come into effect on 1st January but has been delayed – we will update the website when this change is introduced.

The current qualification requirement for the QS is that they must hold a 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification and then be able to demonstrate practical competence on-site during an inspection. From the 1st January 2012 the QS will need a Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings.

For larger businesses, the Part P qualification can still be used by the operatives who are under the direction of the QS; sole traders must undertake the relevant NVQ level 3.
