Solar PV training course

Description

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) installation training course

PV Course overview:

Logic4training’s Solar PV installation training course is designed to provide an entry level qualification for experienced domestic/commercial electricians wishing to include solar photovoltaics in their scope of works. The solar PV course meets the training entry requirements for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

For building services professionals without the relevant qualifications and experience, but who need an understanding of solar photovoltaics to manage, design or specify these systems for others to install, Logic4training’s other solar PV courses include: Solar PV Design training. All the content of the Solar PV Design course is covered on the Solar PV Installation course.

Thanks to legally binding targets to cut carbon and the introduction of Feed in Tariffs (FiTs), solar photovoltaics (PV) is a natural development for the electrical market and should be considered by any electrical installation company or engineer. Course duration: 3 days

Course cost: £495 + VAT

Entry requirements:

Candidates must be experienced in the design and installation of domestic single phase circuits, plus issuing the appropriate documentation (electrical installation certificate, schedule of inspections and schedule of test results). It is also essential that the trainee holds one qualification that demonstrates their knowledge and understanding of BS7671:2008 17th Edition Wiring Regulations. They must also have a sound knowledge and understanding of the Building Regulations.

Typically, eligible candidates will be those who hold an Electrotechnical NVQ level 3 or a Full Scope Part P qualification and 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, with at least 2 years experience.

Do I need this course?

The Solar PV installer course is intended for experienced electricians who wish to up-skill to include solar PV in their offering.

Solar PV course content/syllabus:

The course will cover the predominant solar PV systems (grid connected). Training does not feature all possible variants of this subject and in any case, manufacturer’s support and guidance should always be sought when fitting equipment. The following topics are covered:

  • Background to market and grant funding routes (including MCS)
  • Regulations and standards
  • Health & Safety considerations
  • AC & DC theory
  • PV cell types and benefits
  • PV external and internal site survey requirements
  • Solar PV circuit design
  • PV system design and integration
  • Setting to work and commissioning
  • Solar PV servicing and fault finding

The solar PV training is not intended to cover roof or access work in detail (other than to highlight legislative requirements), so we would also recommend that solar photovoltaic installers also complete the Logic4training Working at Heights course.

If Working at Heights (WaH) is booked at the same time as solar PV training then the WaH course will be at the reduced price of £100 + vat.

Logic4training’s solar PV installation training culminates in a practical and written assessment. The written paper takes the form of a multiple choice exam and a design scenario, with the pass mark being 100%. Successful candidates will be issued with a Logic Certification Solar Photovoltaic Installation certificate.

Reading material/text book required?

A text book is supplied as part of the course; in addition the following documents provide useful background reading:
