Are you interested in becoming a plumber?
Does a trade for life sound appealing?
It’s physically demanding, you need to have a decent knowledge of maths and science and be ready and willing to get your hands dirty.
But, if you like working with your hands and learning new skills, facing new challenges on a daily basis and the potential to be your own boss, a career in plumbing is a great choice.
The plumbing industry branches off into multiple career paths including design, consultancy, teaching or management, and offers excellent wages to boot.
You could even end up branching out into the gas industry to install central heating systems…
Logic4training’s New Entrant Domestic Gas Heating Installer learning programme starts with the basic principles of gas heating, plumbing and pipework skills leading to become a Gas Safe Registered engineer. Find out more
Training as a plumber
It can take a long time to get qualified as a plumber, gaining the right level to enter the profession and work safely.
Choosing the right training provider or college is essential so do your research.
If you train with an independent trainer it is important to ask if the qualifications you obtain at the end of the course would allow you to become a Registered Plumbing or Heating Professional, as these set a high standard for the industry.
To do this you would require an NVQ Level 2 in England and Wales.
Training providers who tell you that you will be able to register but who do not provide the correct qualifications may well be in breach of consumer legislation and could be subject to investigation by trading standards.
