Completing the COMCAT1 course enables gas engineers to legally install, commission, service, repair, and maintain a wide range of commercial catering appliances. Benefits include:
- Meeting Gas Safe registration requirements for commercial catering work

- Gaining up-to-date knowledge of gas safety regulations, appliance installation, and maintenance best practices
- Enhancing safety for clients and users of commercial catering equipment.
Yes, the COMCAT1 module can be taken individually, provided you meet the entry requirements. Candidates must typically hold a relevant core commercial catering gas safety qualification (such as CCCN1 or CODC1) and have been Gas Safe registered for at least 12 months if adding additional appliances to their registration. This allows experienced engineers to upskill or renew their qualification for specific appliance groups without completing the full suite of commercial catering modules.
The COMCAT1 qualification must be renewed every five years to remain valid. Engineers can undertake reassessment up to six months before the expiry date without losing any validity time. Keeping the qualification up to date is essential for maintaining Gas Safe registration and legal compliance when working on commercial catering appliances.
