MSDB / Ryefield / BEMCO Multi-Service Distribution Board Awareness Training
Logic4training’s MSDB (Multi Service Distribution Board) / Ryefield / BEMCO Awareness training is designed for learners that are experienced Single-Phase meter operatives who wish to gain the awareness, underpinning knowledge and practical skills for Single-Phase meter installations fed from a MSDB.
Logic4Training’s 2 day training package gives candidates the awareness, underpinning knowledge & practical skills to work on Multi Service Distribution Boards (MSDB’s).
Learners will undertake learning at our training centre. This enables learners to practice and learn installing and exchanging Power smart meters from MSDB’s in a safe and controlled environment which simulates real work situations.
The training will include identification of MSDB’s, the risks associated with MSDB’s, identification of any faults associated with MSDB’s, fault finding & the testing processes required.
Assessments will include observed practical assessments and theory assessments. In house certification. In House Certification – Does not provide authorisation to work on the cut out(s).
This 2-day course is for experienced single-phase meter operatives who want to gain underpinning knowledge and practical skills for installations fed from multi-service distribution boards (MSDBs). Candidates must be Single Phase & COMCoP (formally MOCoPA / SMICOP / SMIS) trained.

FAQs
A Multi-Service Distribution Board (MSDB) is a fuseboard that receives electricity from the utility supply and distributes it to individual dwellings within multi-occupancy buildings, such as apartment blocks. MSDBs are essential for safely and efficiently managing electrical supplies in these settings, ensuring each unit has a dedicated, protected feed.
The Building Network Operator (BNO) is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of the building’s internal electricity distribution network, including MSDBs. The BNO may be the Distribution Network Operator (DNO), another licensed distributor, or a third party such as a facilities management company. The network must comply with Building Regulations and standards such as BS 7671 and BS 9999.
When working on MSDBs, electrical contractors must follow strict safety procedures to prevent contact with hazardous live parts, especially in older boards with less protection. Modern MSDBs offer improved safety features, such as barriers and shrouding, but contractors must always ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
MSDB awareness training ensures that operatives understand the latest regulatory requirements, including BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), BS 8313, and BS 9999. Training covers safe working practices, correct installation procedures, and how to identify and mitigate potential hazards, supporting compliance and reducing risk.
Upskilling with MSDB awareness training enhances safety, reduces the risk of incidents, and increases employability in the growing smart metering and multi-occupancy building sector. It also ensures operatives are up-to-date with the latest equipment, standards, and best practices, which is increasingly important as the market evolves.
The BNO manages the internal electricity distribution network in multi-occupancy buildings, including the installation and maintenance of MSDBs. They coordinate with DNOs, developers, and contractors to ensure the safe and compliant delivery of metering and distribution services within the building.
