Smart meter renewals explained.
Authorisation due to expire? These answers explain renewals, assessments and first-time registration.
The EUSR / REC / CoMCoP Renewal at £295 + VAT keeps existing authorisations live. The CoMCoP / SMICoP Initial Training and Assessment Package at £745 + VAT covers first-time registration for operatives who already have the underpinning skills. The Permit to Operate assessment at £326 + VAT is an employer-led competency check.
All three are experienced level. If you are new to metering entirely, start with a dual fuel or single fuel new entrant programme instead.
SMICoP, the Smart Metering Installation Code of Practice, sets standards for how installers deal with consumers during an installation visit, including the energy efficiency advice operatives are required to give. Both apply to smart meter work, which is why our initial training and assessment package covers them together alongside EUSR registration.
Authorisations are checked by employers and meter operators before operatives are allowed on site, and a lapse means being stood down rather than simply rebooking. Depending on how long it has been expired, you may need the full initial assessment rather than the shorter renewal, which is a difference of £450 + VAT and additional time off the tools.
Track your expiry dates and book ahead. If yours has already lapsed, call our team before booking so we can confirm the right route.
The EUSR / REC / CoMCoP Renewal is £295 + VAT, the Permit to Operate assessment is £326 + VAT, and the CoMCoP / SMICoP Initial Training and Assessment Package is £745 + VAT.
Employers renewing several operatives should ask about group rates and scheduling, since staggered expiry dates can usually be brought into line. We also offer 0% finance and pay-in-instalments options.
