Find out why Colin took Logic4training’s Level 3 F-Gas course to move from gas work into refrigeration and air conditioning.
Course Highlights
Challenging yet Worthwhile
What Colin initially expected to be similar to his previous gas experience turned out to be more complex and comprehensive than anticipated, providing him with a ‘good challenge’. With the expert guidance from his instructor, Stewart, the more technical elements quickly became straightforward and easy to grasp.
“I had a preconceived idea of what it would be and it is somewhat different to what I thought it would be more involved, a lot more to it […] once you get your head around it, you know, it’s straightforward […] the instructor that we’re using is extremely knowledgeable.”
Great Facilities and Friendly Staff
Colin spoke positively about our training facilities, describing them as nice and clean, friendly with good amenities and easy parking.
His experience was made even better thanks to the positive work experience created by both the Logic4training staff and his fellow students.
Career Prospects
Holding an F-Gas qualification is a mandatory legal requirement for anyone handling fluorinated gases (F-gases) in the UK, so once completing the LCL Level 3 RQF F-Gas you will be able to work legally and competently on refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems that use F-gases.
The certification also provides a pathway to self-employment, technical sales, or progression into supervisory and specialist roles.

FAQs
What is F-Gas?
F-Gas, short for fluorinated gas, refers to a group of powerful greenhouse gases that contain fluorine. The most common types are hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulphur hexafluoride (SF₆).
These gases are widely used across industries – particularly in refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pumps, insulation, and fire protection systems. While essential in many modern systems, F-Gases have a high global warming potential, which is why their use is strictly regulated under both UK and EU legislation.
The goal? To reduce environmental impact and encourage the transition to safer, low-emission alternatives.
What is the difference between the Entry-Level and Level 3 RQF F-Gas courses?
The Basic (Entry-Level) F-Gas Refrigeration Training Course (3 days) is for beginners, offering an introduction to refrigeration and F-Gas awareness, but does not lead to a formal qualification. No specific qualifications are required to do the course as it’s designed for beginners or those with limited experience in refrigeration.
The Level 3 RQF F-Gas Training Course (5 days) is for those wanting to legally work with F-Gases, leading to a recognised Level 3 qualification and F-Gas registration. Candidates wishing to undertake this course must hold a recognised qualification in refrigeration, heating & ventilation or other related industry sector or have a minimum of two years auditable experience working within the HVACR sector.
How long does the Level 3 F-Gas certification last?
This F-Gas certification must be renewed every five years to remain compliant with up-to-date legislation and to demonstrate continued competence when working with fluorinated gases.
Logic4training offers a dedicated F-Gas Reassessment Course designed for experienced engineers needing to renew their qualification.
Can I work on Heat Pumps with an F-Gas Level 3 Certificate?
Yes, the Level 3 F-Gas qualification includes coverage of heat pump systems that use fluorinated gases. However, if you plan to install or service heat pumps, you’ll also need to complete specialist heat pump training to meet industry standards and manufacturer requirements.
How much do the F-Gas courses cost?
- Basic F-Gas Refrigeration Training Course: £455 + VAT
- Level 3 F-Gas Training Course (LCL Level 3 RQF): £920 + VAT
- F-Gas Reassessment Course: £495 + VAT
