Calling all London-based electricians, are you aware of the confusion surrounding Part P Competent Persons Schemes? The requirements for joining a Part P CPS were due to change on the 6th April, with Qualifying Supervisors needing the new QCF qualification: Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings, or similar.
The new qualification is not yet widely available, so it’s still possible to join a CPS under the old requirements – 17th Edition Wiring Regulations course and the Domestic Electrical Installer (DEI) which is a Full Scope Part P qualification, providing underpinning knowledge of Part P, inspection, certification and testing in domestic dwellings.
The good news is that changes to the Part P Approved Document have removed the requirement for many sole traders working as kitchen fitters, plumbers and heating engineers, to notify their work, therefore, they do not need to be part of a CPS in many cases. Any electrical work carried out should comply with the relevant standards and operatives will still need to be competent to install, inspect, test and issue Minor Works and Electrical Installations certificates on a domestic electrical installation.
We provide Part P courses, in convenient locations for London installers. Part P Full and Defined Scope training options are available, which, combined with the 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations course can provide the relevant knowledge and competence to undertake domestic electrical work.
For those of you that still need to join a CPS, we recommend doing this now before the legislation changes – when this will be is uncertain. Logic4training is developing the Level 3 qualification “Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings” which is required by Qualifying Supervisors and will be able to deliver it in the near future.
Logic4training’s London Part P training courses are delivered from our centres in Northolt, Luton and Basildon. Click here for more information.
