Gas Safety Week celebrates record success!

September 25, 2013 featured image

The third annual Gas Safety Week has reported record support, with more than 2,500 industry supporters, working to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of using a registered engineer to check and maintain any gas appliances.

Big name supporters included energy giants British Gas, E.O.N, together with Homebase, B&Q, Currys, Thomson Local, KnowHow, Carillion and Quantic Corporation Ltd.

Campaigns were run throughout the week by front-line engineers through to retailers, encouraging homeowners to get their gas appliances checked every year, make sure their engineer is Gas Safe registered and to check their ID card.

The Gas Safe Register also marked the week-long campaign by launching an interactive gas map, which identifies the most ‘dangerous’ postcodes in the UK. The map – – reveals how many unsafe gas fires, cookers and boilers have been found in an area.

To date, findings show that Birmingham tops the charts as the most dangerous city with 1 in 3 appliances found to be unsafe. At the opposite end of the country, Brighton comes up trumps as the safest city with 1 in 20 appliances found to be unsafe.

Keep up the good work this winter

With gas safety being a life or death situation, help your customers stay safe this winter by booking them in for a boiler MOT or oven overhaul. As we head for the big freeze, badly fitted or poorly maintained gas appliances pose a real threat for the twenty one million households using gas for heating, hot water and cooking – you could be saving lives!
