Specialist Tradespeople Demand

 Feb, 27 - 2017   General

The demand for specialist tradespeople on the up! TrustMark has reported some positive statistics this week,  leading them to ask – was 2016 the year of the specialist tradesperson?

The report is showing a bumper year for homeowners searching for specialist local tradespeople to carry out home improvements and repairs.

The not-for-profit accreditation scheme for tradespeople provided more than 8.3 million search results to consumers last year through their online ‘find a tradesperson’ scheme and telephone helpline.

As our homes become more complex through the advent of new technologies and energy efficient systems, it seems homeowners are now seeking more specialist tradespeople to undertake the work.

Although statistics revealed continued growth across the key trades, such as heating engineers and plumbers, it was the renewable energy specialists that dominated the search results.

These saw the biggest rises compared to the previous year:

  • Heat pump installers – 217% rise
  • Solar panel installers – 130% rise
  • Builders – 21% rise
  • Electricians – around 6% rise

Simon Ayers, Chief Executive of TrustMark, said:

“With technology in our homes becoming much more sophisticated, coupled with rising expectations of home comforts such as air conditioning, home entertainment systems and adaptations for accessibility, we predict an increasing need for specialist businesses and tradespeople to help us maintain our homes.”

TrustMark is a Government-backed quality scheme that covers all trades to do work in and around the home. TrustMark firms are checked for three cornerstones of quality – their trading practices, customer service and technical competence.
