As a professional gas installer, it can seem like a constant battle trying to rise above negative perceptions of the industry caused by rogue traders and cowboy fitters.
Organisations such as Gas Safe Register put a lot of hard work into campaigns like Trust the Triangle, which aim to educate consumers about how they can make sure their gas installers are genuine and safe.
And it finally seems like they are making some headway. In a survey of over 2,000 UK homeowners released as part of Gas Safety Week, gas and heating engineers were voted as the nation’s most trustworthy tradespeople!
The Best Of The Rest
Electricians followed closely behind with 11% of the vote, and plumbers were the third most trustworthy tradespeople, with 8% of the vote.
Also featured on the list of trusted traders were painters and decorators (7%), landscape gardeners (6%) and joiners (5%).
The survey also revealed the qualities consumers want in tradespeople. Respondents were asked to select the three most important attributes:
- Trustworthiness – 67%
- Honesty – 47%
- High quality workmanship – 33%
- Reliability – 33%
- Expertise / qualifications – 23%
- Knowledgeable – 22%
In total, 85% of homeowners who responded in the study deemed qualifications and accreditations to be either “extremely” or “very” important when choosing their trusted traders.
Jonathan Samuel, chief executive at Gas Safe Register, said:
“Having any kind of work done can be stressful, and knowing that the person who is undertaking work is a suitably qualified professional like a Gas Safe registered engineer is a great help.
“We always say, ‘trust the triangle’, and always use a Gas Safe registered engineer.”
