Recent figures released by the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC) show sales of domestic gas boilers in September 2016 fell by 4.3% in comparison with September 2015.
Year to date figures also show a fall of 0.7% compared with 2015.
HHIC’s Stewart Clements said:
“It looks like the slowdown in the property market over the past few months is having an impact upon sales, in particular residential property transactions in Q3 showed a marked decrease compared to 2015, despite year-to-date increases from activity earlier in 2016.
New build activity is also lower than expected, both for starts and completions, which is a worry for the overall construction sector.”
Consider the alternatives
This figure could be a blip but it could also be an indication of changing attitudes from consumers.
We live in an age where information is free and plentiful, meaning people are able to make better-informed decisions on things like alternative fuel choices.
Oil has seen a real jump in popularity this year as have hybrid heating systems which are often the choice of those building their own home.
Renewable heating systems (namely heat pump systems) are also a viable alternative for the green consumer.
As an installer, are you future proofing your skill set?
Specializing in Gas may be the popular, reliable choice for now but the world is moving faster than ever.
Change is never easy to take but those who adapt, thrive. An increasing number of installers are asking us about OFTEC approved oil courses. Oil is currently the cheapest heating fuel on the market with many predicting it will stay low for the foreseeable future.
Learning to install and maintain heat pumps is also an incredibly valuable skill to learn as heat pumps often form part of a hybrid heating system, as well as being used in their own right.
