Thanks to recent changes to the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), homes around the UK will get extra support to keep warm during the colder months. This means that ECO will make sure energy companies provide the necessary support those who struggle to meet their heating bills.
Plans to extend the scheme from 03/17 to 09/18 were also published on January 30.
As a result not only will the vulnerable be helped but eligibility will be extended to social housing tenants in the following Energy Performance Certificate bands; E, F and G.
Furthermore, help to match people with energy suppliers will be provided by local authorities
It’s important to remember that suppliers will be required to install a minimum 21,000 solid wall insulation per year. This is up from the previous consultation figure of 17,000.
Nevertheless, ECO has proved to be very effective as there are over 2 million measures installed in around 1.6 million properties between 2013 and the end of November 2016.
Minister for Energy and Industry, Jesse Norman:
“The government is committed to tackling fuel poverty, and a key part of that is to help people keep bills down by living in more energy efficient homes. These changes will move the UK a further step towards the goal of insulating a further one million homes by 2020.”
