Asbestos training courses now available online!

We’ve launched a range of online asbestos awareness training courses to make sure anyone likely to come into contact with this deadly material; from builders to architects; is safe. Here’s why asbestos safety training is so important:

Asbestos is probably the most dangerous building material ever used. Every year thousands of people fall ill and die because of exposure to asbestos. As it was widely used by the construction industry right up until the year 2000, anybody working in buildings built prior to this period are at risk from asbestos exposure.

There are four main diseases associated with inhalation of asbestos fibres:

  • Mesothelioma – a form of cancer mainly affecting the lining of the lungs
  • Asbestos related lung cancer
  • Asbestosis – a non-malignant scarring of the lung tissue
  • Non-malignant pleural disease (diffuse pleural thickening and pleural plaques)

As an example of the wide-spread of effect of asbestos, in 2012, nearly 3,000 people died from an asbestos related illness, mesothelioma being the biggest cause at over 2,500. It is also estimated that annually, there may be as many asbestos related lung cancer deaths as mesolthelioma caused ones, bringing the overall figure of asbestos caused fatalities to approximately 5,500.

Are you asbestos aware?

The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 applies to employers, employees, self-employed persons and duty holders, covering all work with asbestos containing materials. Regulation 10 of CAR states that every employer must ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos. This includes maintenance workers and others who may come into contact with or disturb asbestos.

Our new online asbestos awareness training courses, are designed for these people; including builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and maintenance staff; and the architects and designers tasked with dealing with buildings that may contain asbestos.

Both courses cover the different types of asbestos, the risks associated, how to avoid exposure and keep in-line with current legislation. The asbestos awareness course for architects and designers also includes specific information regarding their responsibilities.

The new asbestos awareness training courses are interactive and affordable, delivered at a pace to suit each individual. Once purchased, learners can go over the content as often as required providing a useful reference tool, helping your business stay safe and compliant. Multiple licences are also available, allowing larger organisations to roll the courses out to a number of employees.
