Construction workers and tradespeople can work during the current lockdown

England is in lockdown again, but this time round the rules for those working in the construction and the trades have changed.

Can I still go to work?

Although the Government has asked everyone who can work from home to do so, they have made a decision to allow some workers who can’t work in this way to carry on as usual.

The occupations they list include construction workers as well as tradespeople who are required to work in other people’s homes.

Government advice

In a letter written earlier this week, setting out the new guidelines, the Housing Minister, Robert Jenrick, explained that the decision to keep these sectors active was made to help the ailing economy.

In setting out his reasons he said: “This is essential to keeping the country operating and supporting sectors and employers.”

How can I stay safe working on a construction site?

Advice for those working on construction sites is available on the Gov.uk website. Please click here for full details.

What should I do if I need to work in someone else’s home?

Those who work in other people’s homes must take responsibility for the safety of their customers as well as themselves and are required to adhere strictly to COVID 19 guidelines in order to reduce the risk of transmission.

The Government’s website clearly sets out the steps that should be taken, giving extra consideration to those deemed to be at higher risk. It offers advice on:

  1. Thinking about risk
  2. Social distancing
  3. Interacting with householders
  4. Cleaning the work area
  5. PPE and face coverings

Training is essential too!

Training is also deemed essential in this lockdown so Logic4training’s centres are all open for business. If you’ve booked a course during November, this will still be going ahead.
