Logic4training’s Level 3 QCF Award in the Fundamental Principles and Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems is designed for candidates who require an understanding of the main renewable systems; including solar thermal, solar photovoltaic (PV) and heat pumps. This ‘environmental awareness’ training course is ideal for specifiers, building services decision makers, customer service and sales teams, as well as installers looking for foundation information, prior to undertaking a full technical qualification.

Qualifications and Credits Framework (QCF) is a new way of recognising skills and qualifications, enabling candidates to learn at their own pace along flexible routes. In time, the QCF will replace the existing qualifications under the National Qualification Framework (NQF). Scotland operates independently under the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). This Environmental Awareness QCF is Level 3, equivalent to an NVQ level 3.

There are no specific entry requirements for the QCF foundation in renewables training.

The Level 3 award in the Fundamental Principles and Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems is ideal for anyone who has to inform or advise customers and clients about environmental technologies, their use and benefits; such as designers, building control officers or facilities managers.

The foundation in renewable technologies covers the fundamental principles of the following systems:

  • Solar thermal (hot water)
  • Solar photovoltaics (PV)
  • Ground source heat pump
  • Air source heat pump
  • Micro-wind
  • Biomass
  • Micro-hydro
  • Micro-combined heat and power (heat-led) (CHP)
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Greywater re-use

On successful completion, candidates will understand the working principles of micro-renewable energy and water conservation technologies, the types of buildings and locations they are best suited to, their advantages and disadvantages and the regulatory requirements surrounding these systems.

Assessment is via a written assignment and a multiple choice examination.
