Single fuel smart meter training explained.
Specialising in gas or power? These answers explain the single fuel routes and how to add to them.
The new entrant gas and power programmes are managed learning routes, combining centre-based training with supervised on-site experience, so you need an employer to provide that placement and sign off your competence. Access to metering networks is also granted through an accredited meter operator rather than to individuals.
Not yet employed in metering? Speak to our team before booking. We work with several of the UK's largest utilities and can advise on the realistic route in.
Because you already hold the underpinning competence and registration, adding a fuel is a shorter route than the full dual fuel programme from scratch. Operatives who cover both are more valuable to employers, since they can complete a whole property in one visit rather than needing a second engineer.
The right sequence depends on what your employer's contracts cover, so it is worth a conversation before committing to either route.
Three phase supplies are found in shops, offices, workshops, farms and larger domestic properties, and the installations differ enough from single phase to be assessed separately. At £1,095 + VAT it is the shortest and cheapest course in this range, which makes it a straightforward way to widen the jobs you can take on.
See the 3-phase meter installation and exchange course for entry requirements and dates.
Single fuel gets you working sooner in one discipline, with the option to add the other later.
The 3-phase course is £1,095 + VAT as an upskill for existing operatives. The new entrant gas and power programmes sit higher at £4500+VAT for gas and £3,000+VAT for electrics, reflecting several weeks of training plus qualification and registration costs. Single fuel is still the cheaper entry route than the £6,500 + VAT dual fuel programme.
Employers training several operatives should ask about group rates and bespoke delivery. We also offer 0% finance and pay-in-instalments options for individuals.
