From biotechnology to electrical installer – Syed’s story

Syed Fahad Tahir has just finished six weeks of electrical training at our centre in Luton and he’s now excited about finding an entry-level position with an electrical installer to kick off his new career. Syed’s background is in biotechnology, but he was bored with his job and felt like a change. When a friend recommended training with Logic4training, he leapt at the chance.

Syed explains: “I wasn’t really enjoying my work in biotechnology and I’m glad that I now have the qualifications I need to follow a different career. Although my degree in biosciences helped me with the theory, I’ve discovered I love the practical side of electrical work. There’s always something new to learn. At the moment, there is a great need for electricians, so I’m looking forward to getting my first job soon.”

Syed took three courses with us, a tailored package to suit his needs. Firstly, the Domestic Electrical Installer (Part P) course focuses on the installation, inspection, testing and certification of domestic electrical installations plus any required notification under Part P of the Building Regulations.

Then he went on to take our 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Training Course, the next step along the route. This qualification is a pre-requisite for electrical installers, providing them with the knowledge they need of the most recent British Standard BS7671 wiring regulations.

Finally, Syed opted for our Initial Verification of Electrical Installation Course. which is designed for electricians who are responsible for checking and certifying electrical installations. Another qualification that potential employers will be keen to see on his CV.

“After I’ve got a couple of years’ experience under my belt, I will come back to Logic and take my Level 3 qualification, which will mean I can then work independently as an electrician, register for a Gold Card and join a CPS scheme,” Syed continued.

“The courses I’ve just taken were very intense, but we were a small group, and our trainer, Vijay, was terrific. We all had different learning capabilities, and Vijay did so much for us. His previous experience in the trade meant he was able to give us a real insight into the job, which was good as the five of us came from different backgrounds. A couple of them were Uber drivers, looking to find more satisfying and reliable work, and Vijay went above and beyond to get us all up to scratch! I hope we’ll keep in touch through WhatsApp and help support each other going forward.

“Now I’m looking for work. I’ve updated my CV and uploaded it to Indeed and other job websites. I’ve got a profile of LinkedIn so that I can connect with other people and possible employers in the future. I’m excited now and can’t wait to get going!”

If, like Syed, you’re interested in changing careers, please get in touch with us, and we can help you put together a package of courses that will help you get going, too.

We wish Syed all the best in his new career and look forward to hearing how he gets on.
