The City & Guilds 5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification is the work-based NVQ that replaces the 2357 from 31 October 2026. It proves your occupational competence on site and, together with the AM2, makes you eligible to apply for your ECS Gold Card.

Who is the C&G 5357 Level 3 Electrical NVQ for?

The 5357 is the next step for anyone who has completed the C&G 2365 Level 3 Electrical Diploma and is working on site towards becoming a fully qualified electrician. It is the qualification you need to apply for an ECS Gold Card and to join a competent person scheme such as NICEIC or NAPIT.

The qualification is recognised by the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and meets Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) requirements, confirming your ability to work unsupervised or lead projects.

If you have more than five years’ experience but no formal diplomas, the 2346 Experienced Worker Assessment is likely to be the better route.

Employment in the Trade

As this is a work-based assessment, you must be currently employed or working as a subcontractor in the electrical installation industry. You need consistent access to site work to gather the necessary evidence for your portfolio. This work must cover a variety of tasks, including: Installation of structured systems like cable trays, conduits, and trunking as well as, wiring and termination of various cable types and connecting and setting up distribution boards and control equipment.

Complete the C&G 5357 Level 3 Electrical NVQ as part of a training package.

Whilst you can complete the C&G 5357 Level 3 Electrical NVQ as a stand alone course, we also offer it as part of our Platinum electrical training packages.
