FAQs
The CORT1 qualification is a specialist module within the ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) for experienced gas operatives who wish to commission, service, repair, and maintain commercial overhead radiant tube heaters and radiant plaque heaters. It is essential for engineers working with these specific appliances in commercial settings, ensuring compliance with Gas Safe regulations and up-to-date industry standards.
CORT1, like other ACS commercial gas qualifications, is valid for five years. Renewal (reassessment) can be undertaken any time within six months before the expiry date without losing any time on your certification. It is the responsibility of the operative to ensure their qualifications remain current, as lapsed certification can result in suspension from the Gas Safe Register.
Key risks include incomplete combustion (which can produce carbon monoxide), inadequate ventilation, and unsafe installations. The CORT1 course trains operatives to identify and mitigate these risks through thorough safety checks, correct installation procedures, and adherence to the latest regulations.
- Training staff in CORT1 and commercial gas safety delivers several benefits:
- Ensures legal compliance and reduces risk of fines or shutdowns
- Enhances workplace safety for employees and customers
- Minimises the risk of costly accidents, property damage, and downtime
- Protects your business reputation and builds trust with clients and regulatory bodies
- Enables in-house maintenance, reducing reliance on external contractors and improving response times.
Upskilling your team to include commercial gas qualifications such as CORT1 expands your in-house capabilities, allowing you to handle a wider range of maintenance and emergency tasks. This reduces downtime, improves service continuity, and can lead to cost savings by reducing the need for external contractors.
