FAQs
The COMCAT5 Catering Appliances Training Course is a commercial ACS module for experienced gas engineers who want to work on the installation, servicing, commissioning, and repair of forced draught burner appliances in commercial catering environments. To be eligible, candidates must hold a Core Commercial Catering Gas Safety qualification (CCCN1 or CODC1) and be Gas Safe registered, with relevant experience in commercial catering appliances.
COMCAT5 focuses on forced draught burner appliances commonly found in commercial catering, such as large ovens, combination ovens, and other high-output catering equipment that uses forced air to mix gas and air for combustion.
UK law requires that only engineers with appropriate ACS qualifications can work on commercial catering gas appliances. COMCAT5 ensures that engineers have the specific skills and knowledge to safely handle forced draught burners, helping businesses comply with the Commercial Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.
Achieving COMCAT5 certification allows engineers to expand their scope of work, access more job opportunities in the commercial catering sector, and increase their earning potential by offering a wider range of services to clients.
Yes, you can take the COMCAT5 module as a standalone course if you meet the entry requirements, including holding a valid core commercial catering gas safety qualification (such as CCCN1) and being Gas Safe registered. However, many engineers choose to complete multiple COMCAT modules together for broader qualification.
The COMCAT5 qualification must be renewed every five years to stay compliant with Gas Safe Register requirements and current industry regulations. Renewal involves a reassessment to ensure your knowledge and skills remain up to date.
