Plumbing diplomas explained.
Starting out in plumbing? These answers explain where the Level 2 Diploma fits and what follows it.
The Level 2 Diploma is the foundation qualification, covering hot and cold water, central heating and drainage. It is designed for career changers and new entrants, and it is the qualification employers expect before you start building on-site experience.
Yes. It is the LCL Awards Level 2 Diploma in the Installation and Maintenance of Plumbing and Heating Systems, an Ofqual-regulated RQF qualification (603/7341/6).
It is recognised UK-wide by employers, customers and Approved Plumber Schemes, and is the accepted entry-level qualification for the plumbing trade. Logic4training is a primary LCL Awards approved centre with over 24 years of experience delivering building services training.

Most plumbers move on to the NVQ Level 2, which proves competence through on-site evidence and leads to a JIB Plumbing CSCS card. Many also add water safety qualifications such as unvented hot water and the Water Regulations.
Yes for domestic work. With the Diploma alone you can work as a domestic plumber, fitting bathrooms, hot and cold water systems, central heating and above-ground drainage in residential properties.
To work on commercial construction sites you will also need the Level 2 NVQ, which is what unlocks the JIB Plumbing CSCS card. Adding the Water Regulations qualification on top makes you eligible for the WIAPS Approved Plumber Scheme.

Six weeks of full-time training in centre on the weekday route, or around four and a half months on the weekend route at Northolt.
Both routes cover identical content and lead to the same qualification. The weekend option simply spreads it out, which suits people who cannot leave a current job for six weeks.
See the Level 2 Plumbing Diploma page for more information, and get in touch with our team for upcoming start dates.
