Meet Dan, one of our recent Basic (Entry-level) and LCL Level 3 RQF F-Gas students, as he shares why he chose to upskill into air conditioning and his experience training at Logic4training.
Course Experience
Preparing for a Growing Industry
Coming from a heating background, Dan wanted to broaden his skills by taking on something new. With the air conditioning sector continuing to grow, he felt there was no better time to make the move:
“I decided to do the course because I wanted something new to do. Air conditioning is obviously quite up and coming right now, and I thought it’s no better time to do it”
Meeting New People
Dan most enjoyed the practical side of the course and especially meeting new people and the supportive peer interactions.
“The practical side was really good, but I just enjoyed meeting new people. We’re all in the same boat… we’ve all been helping each other out, which I found most sort of accommodating really.”
Career Prospects
Holding an F-Gas qualification is a mandatory legal requirement for anyone handling fluorinated gases (F-gases) in the UK, so once completing the LCL Level 3 RQF F-Gas you will be able to work legally and competently on refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems that use F-gases.
The certification also provides a pathway to self-employment, technical sales, or progression into supervisory and specialist roles.

FAQs
What is F-Gas?
F-Gas (fluorinated greenhouse gases) are man-made refrigerant gases used in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems. Although they don’t deplete the ozone layer, they have a high global warming potential (GWP) if released into the atmosphere, which is why their use is tightly regulated.
Anyone who installs, services, maintains or recovers F-Gases from these systems must hold the appropriate F-Gas qualification. F-Gas training teaches engineers how to safely handle refrigerants, detect leaks, recover gases correctly, and comply with current environmental legislation.
What F-Gas courses do Logic4training offer?
The Basic (Entry-Level) F-Gas Refrigeration Training Course (3 days) is for beginners, offering an introduction to refrigeration and F-Gas awareness, but does not lead to a formal qualification. No specific qualifications are required to do the course as it’s designed for beginners or those with limited experience in refrigeration.
The Level 3 RQF F-Gas Training Course (5 days) is for those wanting to legally work with F-Gases, leading to a recognised Level 3 qualification and F-Gas registration. Candidates wishing to undertake this course must hold a recognised qualification in refrigeration, heating & ventilation or other related industry sector or have a minimum of two years auditable experience working within the HVACR sector.
The F-Gas Re-assessment Course (2 days) is for engineers looking to renew their qualification. An F-Gas certification is valid for five years, and the reassessment must be completed before or within six months of expiry.
The Refrigeration & AC Pipework Oxy-Fuel Brazing Course (2 days) is a hands-on, Level 3 course covers safe oxy-fuel brazing techniques for copper pipework, helping engineers produce strong, leak-free joints while meeting current industry standards and compliance requirements.
The ACRIB Flammable Refrigerants (A2L, A2, A3) Course (2 days) is designed for qualified RACHP engineers, this Level 3 course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely work with flammable refrigerants in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems. It covers safe handling, installation, servicing and compliance with current ACRIB standards and industry regulations.
Can I work on Heat Pumps with an F-Gas Level 3 Certificate?
Yes, the Level 3 F-Gas qualification includes coverage of heat pump systems that use fluorinated gases. However, if you plan to install or service heat pumps, you’ll also need to complete specialist heat pump training to meet industry standards and manufacturer requirements.
How much do the F-Gas courses cost?
- Basic F-Gas Refrigeration Training Course: £495 + VAT
- Level 3 F-Gas Training Course (LCL Level 3 RQF): £1095 + VAT
- F-Gas Reassessment Course: £495 + VAT
- Refrigeration and AC Pipework Oxy-Fuel Brazing Training Course: £495 + VAT
