To become a qualified gas engineer in the UK, you must successfully complete the ACS gas practical and theoretical elements of the CCN1 and appliances qualifications. After successful completion, you will be able to sign up to the Gas Safe Register and legally work as a gas engineer.

The Domestic Gas Heating Installer Experienced Trades Route is a hands-on gas training package that contains the Gas Managed Learning Programme (MLP), specifically the DNGA3 – Domestic Natural Gas Appliances (Central Heating Boilers & Instantaneous Water Heaters). This MLP provides you with all the practical skills and underpinning knowledge needed to work as a domestic Gas Safe Register engineer. Our Experienced Trades Gas Packages have been designed for clear routes into the gas industry, with options to upskill to work on more domestic appliances, commercial gas, LPG, and/or heat pumps.

Starting with a strong understanding of the basics is crucial. This intensive five-day program is carefully designed to cover a variety of practical skills. Each day focuses on specific trades, ensuring a balanced learning experience.

Stage two

In-centre trining

Here comes the best bit! On your start date, you’ll go into the centre and start your theory and practical training, working on completing the Gas Managed Learning Programme (MLP). Over the 4 weeks, you’ll learn all the essential skills and theoretical underpinning needed to become a Gas Safety Registered Engineer.

Stage three

Club Logic Online Revision

Online revision pairs perfectly with hands-on, in-centre training. Together, they create a balanced learning experience. Upon signing up for your Gas Managed Learning Programme (MLP), you will be able to access ClubLogic and start learning. You will gain more access to revision modules and practice assessments throughout the course.

Stage four

Build your gas portfolio Guidance

Once you have completed your in-centre training, you must move on to the mandatory on-site portfolio element. This stage is designed to provide you with real-world, hands-on experience under the supervision of a Gas Safe Registered engineer.

To complete your portfolio, you will need to demonstrate and document evidence of specific gas-related tasks.

Stage five

Complete your final assessments

Once you have finished your in-centre gas training, online revision modules and gas portfolio, it is time to put your knowledge and practical skills to the test.

Candidates are required to carry out the ACS assessments to demonstrate competency in the gas sector. You will be working towards gaining your CCN1 and CENWAT ACS qualifications.

Stage six

Work as a gas engineer

Following your ACS assessments, you will be able to apply to the Gas Safe Register. At this stage, you can become an employed gas engineer, a self-employed gas engineer, or continue your training to add the ability to work with heat pumps.

If you are looking to upskill to work on more domestic appliances or enter the commercial gas sector, you will be able to do so after a mandatory 12-month period.

Learn The Essential Trade Skills

The Essential Site Skills (ESS) course spans five days and is ideal for those new to the trades or with only a small amount of experience. Throughout the course, you’ll gain a variety of practical skills, equipping you to perform tasks effectively while upholding strong professional standards on the job.

Gas Managed Learning Programme

The Gas Managed Learning Programme is a 4-week course covering all aspects of domestic gas safety, leading to the DNGA3 qualification. You'll start in-centre, learning the theoretical foundations and practical skills needed to become a gas engineer, before heading out to build your on-site gas portfolio. Once your portfolio is complete, you'll return to centre for refresher training and your final ACS assessments.

Gas Managed Learning Programme - Portfolio

Completing the gas portfolio is a mandatory requirement to complete the Gas Managed Learning Programme. You can do your on-site portfolio and boiler installations with a Gas Safe Registered engineer of your choice or we can provide a portfolio building service. Start with the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification. An essential for everyone in the industry, as safety and knowing how to respond in an emergency can save lives.

This course is ideal for operatives who want to join their local Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme (WIAPS), competent person scheme (CPS) or the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

All our courses are full-time. Courses start at 8.30 am and usually finish at around 4.00 pm. You will be advised on your first day at the centre if there are any changes to these times. The centre is open from 8.00 am, and there is tea & coffee awaiting.

The Gas Managed Learning Programme is available at our Northolt, Luton, Basildon, or Sittingbourne Centres.

You will need to have at least 2 years of experience in a related trade. We will assess candidates to check their suitability and a good understanding of maths and English is essential.

Yes, it is possible to complete the course on weekends. The Gas Managed Learning Programme can be completed on weekends at our Northolt Centre and would take 3 months to complete.

There are no formal assessments. You will receive Logic4training Certificates upon completing these courses.

If you are looking to work on the following appliances, you must wait the mandatory 12 months from your ACS completion date and be Gas Safe Registered.

HTR1 – Space Heaters (including Gas Fires and Wall Heaters) (CPA1 required)

LEI1 – Domestic Gas Fired Leisure Equipment (Appliance range: barbecues, greenhouse heaters, refrigerators, gas pokers, gas lighting and patio heaters)

Classes can have a maximum of 10 people. We like to keep our class sizes small, so that you have more contact time with your trainer.

Yes. After completing your Gas Managed Learning Programme, you can apply to join the Gas Safe Register.

We understand that being able to spread the cost of the course is an appealing option, so we have teamed up with OMNI Retail Finance to make this possible. When speaking to your course advisor, let them know that you want to spread the course cost, and they can help you start the process. More information can be found here.

All tools and equipment are provided during this course. However, you will need to bring hard steel toe-capped boots for when you are in the workshop. In some circumstances, candidates may bring their own test equipment if they so desire, but please check beforehand.

Logic4training will supply reading material and textbooks on the first day of attendance; however, it is a good idea to bring in pens, highlighters, and sticky notes.
