A skeleton key being sold online for only £20 is being blamed for recent rise in tool thefts from vans. Never heard of the skeleton key? Well simply put it's a key which allows these thieves to break into vans with ease. Despite having a legal use as a locksmiths tool many believe it shouldn't be as available to the general public. Steffan George, from the Master Locksmiths Association, said: "These are legitimate locksmiths tools, but they shouldn't be available to everyone. We would welcome a restriction of their sale."

Shocking Stats

A van is broken into and tools are stolen every 23 minutes in the UK. Recent figures obtained by the BBC Radio 5 live show this kind of theft has risen by nearly two-thirds in 2 years, totaling to around 22,749 thefts of tools. Once BBC 5 investigated, asking all 45 police UK police forces about the scale of the problems, the BBC received replies from 30 of them.
