Health and Safety in Building Services Engineering

Safety is the most critical aspect of any electrical career. This unit ensures you are fully compliant with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, legal benchmarks for all UK installers. You will learn to identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, and perform safe electrical isolation. All essential site skills. The curriculum also covers manual handling, working at heights, and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Unit 202

Principles of Electrical Science

Commonly referred to as the “Why behind the How,” this unit dives into the physics of electricity. You will explore mathematical principles, Ohm’s Law, and electromagnetism to understand how electrical energy behaves. Mastering these concepts is vital for calculating circuit requirements and understanding the fundamental science of AC/DC currents, which forms the basis for all advanced electrical design and testing.

Electrical Installations Technology

This module bridges the gap between science and practice. You will learn about the different types of electricity supply systems in the UK (such as TN-S, TN-C-S, and TT) and the technical requirements for earthing and bonding. We also cover the selection of cables and circuit protection devices (CBs and RCDs) in accordance with the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), ensuring your installations are safe and compliant.

Communicating with Others in Building Services Engineering

Being a successful electrician requires more than just technical skill, it requires professional communication. This unit prepares you for the “on-site” environment, covering how to interpret technical drawings, site plans, and specifications. You will learn how to communicate effectively with clients, site managers, and other tradespeople, ensuring projects run smoothly and to schedule.

  • Level 2 Diploma

    7 weeks

    The first step to becoming an electrician is the C&G 2365 Level 2 Electrical Diploma that covers essential electrical science and practical wiring skills. It qualifies you to start working on-site immediately as an Electrician’s Mate.

  • 18th Edition

    3 days

    The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations is an essential course teaches you how to navigate the UK’s national safety standard (BS 7671). It is a requirement for almost all site work and is necessary for your future ECS card application.

  • Level 3 Diploma

    6 weeks

    Building on your Level 2 Electrical Diploma knowledge, the C&G 2365 Level 3 Electrical Diploma focuses on advanced electrical theory, fault finding and inspection. It is a pre-requisite qualification that is required to complete the C&G 2357 Level 3 Electrical NVQ.

  • Level 3 NVQ

    6-18 months

    During the C&C 2357 Level 3 Electrical NVQ, you'll gather evidence of your practical competence while working on real-world installations. An assessor will verify your portfolio to ensure you meet industry standards for safety and quality.

  • The AM2

    3 days

    The Achievement Measurement 2 (AM2) is the final unit of the Level 3 NVQ. It is a three-day practical and theory exam taken at an AM2 approved centre. Passing this is the final hurdle to proving you are a competent, skilled electrician.

  • ECS Gold Card

    6-8 weeks

    With your NVQ and AM2 certificates, you can apply for the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Gold Card. This is your professional "passport" that allows you to work independently on any commercial or industrial site in the UK.

What are the entry requirements for the C&G 2365 Level 2 Electrical Diploma?

The City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations is specifically designed as a beginner pathway. To join the course at Logic4training, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Age Requirement: Candidates must be 18 years of age or older at the start of the programme.
  • No Prior Experience Needed: You do not need to be currently working in the electrical trade or hold any previous construction qualifications.
  • Language & Literacy: A basic level of English and Mathematics is recommended to help with the theoretical science and written health and safety components of the course.
  • Commitment to Learning: As this is an intensive Level 2 Electrical Diploma, a proactive attitude and a willingness to engage in both classroom theory and hands-on workshop practice are essential.

Note for Career Changers: If you have spent years in a different industry, your transferable skills (such as problem-solving or project management) are highly valued. This course is the perfect environment to translate those skills into a technical trade.

The Level 2 Electrical Diploma doesn’t make you a fully qualified electrician, but it does make you employable. With it, you can apply for roles as an Electrician’s Mate, Electrical Labourer or Trainee Electrician and start earning while you continue your training. Employers are far more likely to take you on with the Level 2 behind you, because you arrive already understanding safe isolation, wiring systems and site safety.

Level 3 Diploma

Progress to the Level 3 Electrical Diploma

The C&G 2365 Level 3 Diploma builds directly on your Level 2. Over 6 weeks, you’ll move into advanced electrical science, installation design, fault diagnosis, inspection and testing.

You can’t complete the C&G 2357 Level 3 NVQ without it, so this is the qualification that keeps the route to Gold Card open.

To become fully qualified, you will need to complete the C&G Level 3 Electrical Diploma (2365-03), followed by the C&G Level 3 Electrical NVQ (2357-03) and the AM2 assessment. After successfully completing the AM2, you can apply for your Gold ECS card.
