CDGA1 Direct Fired Gas Appliances Training Course
Logic4training's Direct Fired Gas Appliances course (CDGA1) is for experienced operatives who wish to undertake commissioning, servicing and repair of commercial direct fired gas appliances.
This module is normally undertaken as part of either the Commercial Changeover Gas Safety Package or the Core Commercial Gas Safety Package.
Logic4training’s Direct Fired Gas Appliances training course (CDGA1) is for experienced operatives who wish to undertake more varied work in the commercial sector.
The course covers the commissioning, servicing and repair of direct fired gas appliances e.g. large greenhouses or open warehouses where the products of combustion are discharged directly in to the area to be heated, not externally via a chimney.
Range – All direct fired forced convection non-domestic heating equipment with either 100% fresh air supply or re-circulated air with forced draught or atmospheric burners.
This course is normally undertaken as part of either the Commercial Changeover Gas Safety Package or the Core Commercial Gas Safety Package.
If you need to take this as an individual module, please contact our customer service team on 0208 845 7222.
This course includes training and assessment on module CDGA1 – Direct Fired Commercial Appliances.
It covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake commission, service, repair and breakdown of commercial direct fired gas appliances.
Training is not a mandatory pre-requisite to assessment.
Please note: This module is normally undertaken as part of the Commercial Changeover Gas Safety Package or the Core Commercial Gas Safety Package.
Price includes for training, assessment and certification fee.
Operatives who need to undertake CDGA1 as an individual module will need to show a valid certificate for Indirect Fire Gas Appliances (CIGA) and Radiant Tube & Plaque Heaters (CORT) dated within the last 3 months.
Otherwise, we can only offer this course as part of a package with CIGA and CORT which will incur an additional cost.
Operatives must hold one of the following qualifications:
- COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety qualification or
- CODNCO1 – Changeover Domestic to Commercial Gas Safety
- Plus ICPN1 if pipework diameter >50mm
If you want to take this qualification as an individual module, you will need to supply a valid certificate to show you have undertaken CIGA and CORT within the last 3 months.
If you are unable to supply this, we are only able to offer this course as part of a package with CIGA and CORT, which will incur an additional cost.

FAQs
CDGA1 is a recognised ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) module for experienced gas engineers who want to commission, service, repair, and maintain commercial direct fired gas appliances. These appliances are typically used in large spaces, such as greenhouses or warehouses, where combustion products are released directly into the heated area rather than vented externally. The qualification is essential for engineers working on this specific type of commercial heating equipment and is often required as part of a broader commercial gas safety package.
CDGA1 is a key component for any engineer working with direct fired gas appliances in commercial environments. It ensures compliance with UK gas safety regulations, enhances employability, and is often a prerequisite for working on specific commercial projects. Regular reassessment keeps engineers up-to-date with evolving industry standards and safety protocols.
CDGA1 and other ACS modules must be renewed every five years. Renewal involves reassessment, which covers both theory and practical skills. Only ACS codes held on previous certificates can be renewed directly; adding new modules may require additional training and assessment in line with the latest Gas Safe.
To renew your qualification, you will need to retake this course.
Yes, but only if you can provide valid, recent certificates for CIGA and CORT modules. Otherwise, CDGA1 must be taken as part of a package with these modules. This ensures all essential competencies are covered for safe and compliant commercial gas work.
Holding CDGA1 allows engineers to work on a wider range of commercial heating systems, including those in large-scale industrial and agricultural settings. This can lead to roles in facilities management, commercial installation and maintenance, and specialist contractor positions, all of which are in high demand across the UK.
